“We declare our readiness to attempt to form a government and a parliament that will work and approve the necessary legislation. “There is Such a People” accept the programme, they approve what we have written and make good suggestions. I think they will not meet with resistance from your side. The larger part is aimed towards economic and social policies, as well as a few editorial changes,” declared the leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), Kornelia Ninova, during the meeting with “Democratic Bulgaria”.
According to her words, there is a desire to create a cabinet with conversation in two parts - one on the topic of the policies and, if an agreement is reached, a second one about the structure and composition of the Council of Ministers.
“We view the third mandate as a collective one. We stand on the programme that we created together in the first mandate. We will participate more actively in the process when there is a candidate for the position of Prime Minister from “We Continue the Change,” added Hristo Ivanov.
Atanas Atanasov added that the challenges and crises that Bulgaria is facing are much greater than the differences between the political parties.
“We approach the situation constructively and responsibly for a government to be formed, because the risk of Bulgaria being left without a parliament during the winter months is high. This opens the opportunity for political destabilisation that serves Borissov’s plan for restoration and we will not let that happen,” said Atanas Atanasov.
BSP’s consultations for forming a cabinet with the third mandate continue. There were already meetings with “We Continue the Change” and representatives from “There is Such a People”. Both parties declared their willingness to create a cabinet.
The socialists seek a majority in the 47th National Assembly from their previous partners from the quadruple coalition, a majority that is based on the government programme, created by “We Continue the Change”, BSP and “Democratic Bulgaria”.
“We Continue the Change” made the condition that the anticorruption law to be approved and for Boyko Rashkov to be chosen as head of the Commission for Anti-Corruption and Illegal Assets Forfeiture (CACIAF) during the stage of consultations, so that “it is proven that there is an anticorruption majority working in the parliament”.
Slafi Trifonov’s party declared that they accept the government programme created by the three formations and they will submit proposals for changes. They declared their support for the first reading of the anticorruption law, although they have serious complaints which they will submit before the second voting.
If the first stage of negotiations ends successfully today, there will be discussions about the structure and composition of the cabinet. Kornelia Ninova has already declared numerous times that the candidate for Prime Minister should come from the largest parliamentary group “We Continue the Change”.
If a new quadruple coalition is formed, “We Continue the Change”, BSP, “There is Such a People” and “Democratic Bulgaria” will gather a majority of 128 politicians, without counting the support from independent politicians.
