Bansko Municipality voted an ordinance banning the construction of more nightclubs, casinos and erotic bars in the resort. It also bans the rebuild the existing ones.
The idea is not to turn the mountain town into a noisy resort, but to be attractive for families who want to rest, to go skiing in the mountains and at the same time to have the opportunity to get familiar with the culture and traditions of Bansko and the region.
Currently, 20 night clubs, bars, casinos and gaming halls are working in Bansko. They have a capacity of 1,500 visitors and, according to the Mayor, the existing facilities are enough for the needs of tourists who want to enjoy nightlife.
We’d rather want to preserve the authenticity and what Bansko has been so far, the Mayor added.
Most tourists in Bansko support the decision of the municipality to limit the number of nightclubs.
The municipality is also considering to restrict the construction of new hotels in the resort.
Georgi Ikonomov, Mayor of Bansko Municipality: After all, we think we have enough beds, on the other hand there are enough hotels in a process of construction. We should not build up new spaces.
In the next months, a change in the overall development plan of Bansko will be made in order to introduce more restrictions in the construction in the resort.
