The Minister of Justice of North Macedonia issued an order for the removal of the Bulgarian Club "King Boris the Third" in Ohrid from the central registry.
This comes ten days after the deletion of the Bulgarian club "Ivan Mihailov" in Bitola from the country's central registry, the Macedonian News Agency reported on Mach 30.
Bulgarian club "Ivan Mihailov" in Bitola removed from the Central Registry of North Macedonia
The two associations of local Bulgarians were registered 3-4 years ago. Their deletion comes following amendments to the law, which came into force retroactively.
Justice Minister, Krenar Loga, signed the decision to close the Bulgarian Club "Kingr Boris III" in Ohrid this afternoon.
The move comes after the statement of the Commission on the Names of Organisations and Associations in the Republic of North Macedonia, which two days ago gave a negative opinion on the Ohrid club. Now, it is the Central Registry's turn to delete the name from the system following this decision.
The official statement said that the name was causing tension and intolerance among the entire Macedonian society. In the explanation, the commission said that King Boris III was "responsible for crimes committed during the Bulgarian occupation of Macedonia in World War II, during which hundreds of citizens were liquidated."
The opinion that "his collaboration and alliance with the Third Reich and his marked anti-Semitic policy were most directly responsible for the deportation and extermination of thousands of Jews from Macedonia to the Treblinka death camp" is particularly emphasised.
