The official pre-election campaign for the Presidential elections and national referendum in Bulgaria started on 7th of October. The elections are scheduled for 6th of November 2016.
Publishing and broadcasting of anonymous materials is banned during the one month of the campaign period.
All media are obliged to relevantly indicate in campaign-related media coverages if the published or broadcast material is paid.
The campaign must be conducted in Bulgarian language. Election campaigning is prohibited in the public and municipal transport as well as all state and municipal agencies, institutions, enterprises and commercial companies with more than 50% state or municipal participation in the capital.
Officials of the religious denominations are not allowed to get involved in the campaigning. Religious rites will not be considered a form of pre-election campaigning.
The campaign materials are prohibited to use the coat-of-arms or the flag of the Republic of Bulgaria or of a foreign country as well as religious signs or images. All campaign materials must contain information that buying and selling votes is a crime. Destruction and removal of campaign materials placed in accordance with the requirements of the Electoral Code is banned by the end of the election day.
The campaign will run until 24:00 hrs on 4th of November. No form of campaigning is allowed in the 24 hours prior to the start of the Election Day.
