On November 7, 63 years ago, the first news programme was broadcast on the first television channel in Bulgaria, today BNT. Once you have touched the magic of television, you remain enchanted forever. And it was this magic that captivated an 18-year-old young man from Varna.
Mikael Terteryan is the biggest fan of BNT’s news broadcast "Around the World and at Home", watches all the current affairs programmes of BNT and is interested in politics. He writes reports and shoots them himself with his amateur camera.
The TV studio is a world that remains hidden to viewers. But Mikael has the opportunity to touch everything and even take on the role of a cameraman. In the camera room, the team behind the making of a broadcast is waiting for him.
Even the director gives him his seat so that Mikael can, although only for a little while, direct the broadcast.
"Wonderful setting! It looks very interesting and it's a tremendous combination of effort and capability that the team has to bring together to be able to achieve a complete presentation of the show," believes Mikael.
In his home, journalism and specifically the BNT are everywhere present. His love for "Around the World and at Home" started 5 years ago and he has been filming his own reports ever since.
"I made my own studio. One year after that I created my own newspaper, which is all about alternative news, positive news, which doesn't burden the audience to such an extent with accidents, with people who have died. To show the positive side of the events of the day," he says.
Mikael is interested in politics and watches with interest all the BNT's current affairs programmes.
"No doubt, 'Around the World and at Home' is my favourate, but shows like 'Panorama', 'Referendum' and the show hosted by Mariana Vekilska 'Bulgaria in 60 Minutes', which covers regional issues and pays attention to positive topics, which I really insist on, are shows I really love," says Mikael.
His priority now is to finish his secondary education, so news coverage is on the back burner. He is preparing to become a university student and is determined to stay in Bulgaria.
"My family and friends are here and I plan to start a family here, develop, build a life. I can give a lot to my country," says the young fan of the BNT newscast.
