One person died and 16 were injured in a multi-car crash on Struma motorway near Sandanski, South Bulgaria on 5th of February. More than 30 vehicles were involved in the collision.
According to initial information, the person who died in the crash tried to stop the traffic to prevent further collisions, but was hit by a heavy goods vehicle.
Firefighting teams are working to get people out of the crushed cars.
The injured have been taken to hospitals in the towns of Sandanski, Petrich and Blagoevgrad. Traffic is diverted to by-pass routes.
Thick fog is the likely cause for the serious road accident around 8.00 am.
