The validity of the personal ID documents is extended for further 6 months, the Parliament decided conclusively on November 6.
Thus, the ID documents that expire in the period from October 31 to January 31, 2021, are also extended by half a year. This change will also affect Bulgarians abroad whose documents have expired - they will be able to leave the country they are in to return to Bulgaria.
According to Bulgaria’s Foreign Ministry, 48 countries have expressed readiness to allow Bulgarians with expired documents to return to the country.
According to the Ministry of Interior, this decision will affect over 400,000 Bulgarian citizens.
The MPs also decided that during the epidemic situation, the administrative heads of the judiciary could set up an organisation to postpone cases for new dates.
They will also be able to suspend once, for a period not longer than 14 days, and not to hold open court hearings, as well as to postpone them.
