Bulgaria’s Parliament on 27th of March conclusively adopted the changes to the Election Code, which practically return the old preference thresholds.
Two months before the European elections the changes to the Election Code are in fact final. Thus the thresholds for preferences will be 7% for local and parliamentary elections and 5% for European elections. The NFSB's proposal for a jump to 20% for the threshold at local elections in order to prevent the possibility for a big family to rearrange the list of municipal councilors, was rejected.
The MPs did not adopt the proposal of the MRF for removal of the limit on the opening of polling stations in non-EU countries.
