The South Bulgarian district of Smolyan declared a partial state of emergency on 10th of January, the mayor Nikolai Melemov told Darik radio. The reason was the intense snowfall and the thick snow cover on the territory of Smolyan municipality.
The measure is preventative, to avoid bigger disasters, he explained. We need to be ready to carry out rescue and emergency operations if required to clean the streets and roads in the region and make them passable, he added.

The partial state of emergency is in place for the villages of Mugla, Turen, Turun, Tarun, Strazha, Arda and Gorna Arda, Mogiolitsa, Valchan, Zmievo, Shiroka Laka, for the road sections Kutela- Slaveino, Momchilovtsi – Haidushki Polyani, Katranitsa – Petkovo.
In order to deal with the disaster situation, the Mayor has issued an order requiring the municipal team for implementation of the disaster protection plan to work non-stop.
