Pirogov Hospital Opens Renovated Children’s Clinics

The renovated children's clinics of Pirogov Hospital in Sofia were officially opened on 23^rd of October in the presence of Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borisov. The repair works of the clinics and the children's emergency room cost nearly BGN 3 million, the director of the hospital Professor Assen Baltov said. The fuunding was mainly provided from the state budget, and BGN 400,000 were donated by the America for Bulgaria Foundation. This is the first major renovation in the childcare section of the hospital since it was founded more than 50 years ago.

These are not just upgraded wards with modern equipment. This is a completely different concept in medicine. The purpose of the fairy-tale characters and the playful setting is not just entertainment, the architect of the modernized children's ward explains.

This is a very effective means of improving children's health, making them forget about the trauma they have experienced, especially in cases of surgical intervention. It inspires them a positive attitude towards the surroundings and thus improves their overall condition, Lee Skolnick said.

65 consulting rooms, children's thoracic and abdominal surgery, the surgery for newborns and child resuscitation were renovated. The orthopedic and traumatology clinic will also be renovated.

“This is a place where worried people come. There is nothing worse for parents than seeing their kids suffering from illness”, PM Boyko Borissov said. That is why the surroundings the medical equipment and the qualities of the doctors and nurses are important to make people feel calmer, he added.
