PM BORISSOV: BULGARIA IS AMONG THE COUNTRIES MOST AFFECTED BY MIGRATION PRESSURE (update)

"Bulgaria is among the countries most affected by migration pressure and, in the face of an increasing migration flow, we prove that we successfully guard the external border of the EU”, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister, Boyko Borissov, said on 23rd of July at the meeting with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini.

PM Borissov highlighted that the accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen area would be a clear signal about the unity of the European Union in the fight against terrorism and illegal migration. The two also discussed the situation in Greece.

Federica Mogherini also met Bulgaria’s President Rosen Plevneliev. They discussed regional and international cooperation, European and Euro-Atlantic integration of the countries from the Western Balkans, the conflicts in Eastern Ukraine and in the Middle East, as well as the migration issue and the need for European solidarity and common actions to deal with the migration pressure.

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini was on a visit to Bulgaria on 23rd of July to attend a public discussion dedicated to the new EU foreign policy and security strategy, drafted by Mogherini’s team and the review of the European neighbourhood policy. Representatives from Eastern Europe, the Western Balkans and Turkey, as well as over 40 representatives of NGOs from 14 EU neighbouring countries participated.
