On 7th of October, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borisov met with Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Committee on Tourism and National Heritage of Saudi Arabia. The Saudi official heads a delegation exploring opportunities for investment in Bulgaria.

At the meeting, Prince Sultan Al-Saud has said that his country has treated tourism as a priority sector with great potential for development and for forming partnerships with other countries. He praised the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Bulgaria, describing it as an excellent basis for cooperation and implementation of joint projects, the government’s press office said.

PM Borissov said that Bulgaria was an established tourist destination. "It is a telling sign that foreign tourist visits have gone up by 40% over the past 10 years, reaching more than 7 million tourists, a figure which is almost the same as the country's population." He said that Bulgaria was very welcoming towards new opportunities for the development of the tourism sector and towards investors, to fully develop its potential in this strategic sector. According to Borissov, although sea and skiing destinations dominate Bulgaria's tourism industry, there is great potential to develop other forms of tourism such as spa, cultural and historic tourism, even a combination of them.

The Bulgarian PM also highlighted Bulgaria's strategic geographic position, sound macro-economic indicators, low tax rates and good availability of skilled workers. "Bulgaria is economically stable, pursues a strict fiscal and financial policy and that makes it an attractive investment destination." The Prime Minister said he expected that the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in tourism between Bulgaria and Saudi Arabia, which was signed a few days ago, would be a good basis to stimulate bilateral contacts between businesses and governments.
