Traffic police is stepping up road traffic controls in the period of the Christmas holidays. The police teams will monitor compliance with traffic rules, on motorways, main roads and in the cities.
They will be checking for speeding, use of alcohol and drug use, as well as whether the vehicles are technically in good condition and the required third party insurances.
During holidays, people tend to get together for celebrations and it is important to remind motorists not to drive after use of alcohol or drugs. We also expect people to observe the measures introduced by the Ministry of Health, the police said.
Some 50,000 cars left Sofia yesterday, data of the Road Infrastructure Agency shows.
