president radev parliamentary elections bulgaria should held time march

The parliamentary elections must be held on time, Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev is adamant. He pointed out that March 28, 2021 is the right date. The head of state commented on current events in front of journalists after laying flowers at the monument to Nikola Vaptsarov on the occasion marking 111 years since the birth of the anti-fascist poet.

All state bodies - election administration, executive and judiciary power must create the necessary conditions for a fair conduct of the upcoming vote, called President Radev.

Rumen Radev - President of Bulgaria: The elections must be held on time with delivered and licensed machines, as required by law with all measures to guarantee the right of every Bulgarian to vote and to minimize the risk to his health.

The issue of vaccines against COVID-19 has a direct bearing on the health and lives of Bulgarians not only to deal with the pandemic, but also for years to come, the President said, citing the opinion of leading scientists and experts.

Rumen Radev - President of the Republic of Bulgaria: I expect the government to approach with full responsibility on this issue; to have a competent and frank explanation of both the benefits of this vaccination and the risks; to have received all permits from the European Medicines Agency and the Bulgarian Medicines Agency. And it is very important to guarantee the rights of those who will not be vaccinated.

The head of state agrees that people in the frontline of the fight against the virus and those most in need must be vaccinated first.

Rumen Radev - President of Bulgaria: I will get vaccinated only when there are no people waiting for a vaccine in this category.

The head of state also commented on the idea of the ruling GERB to have a prosecutor with powers to investigate the Prosecutor General.

Rumen Radev - President of Bulgaria: I think that the government is no longer ashamed to demonstrate their warm ties with the Prosecutor General. What are they actually offering us. We are offered the Prosecutors’ College (of the Supreme Judicial Council - SJC), where the Prosecutor General has full authority, to nominate the person who will investigate him. We are being offered the same SJC, which elected this Prosecutor General by an overwhelming majority, to now choose the person who would investigate him in the vent of allegations of wrong-doing.

According to the President, the imitation of reforms in the judicial system by the government only exposes their goal - to concrete the status quo.
