President Rumen Radev said that the green future of the energy sector requires sacrifices and they are expressed in the higher price of energy, which leads to reduced competitiveness.
According to Radev, the transformation to green energy will lead to a change in the way people live and in the way energy is used to produce goods and their transport. He said that if we divest from traditional capacities faster than necessary and green projects are introduced quickly this could lead to a crisis.
"The path that Europe has taken towards a green future should be a careful one, because the unknown always raises questions and concerns in wide circles of people. Particularly if we take Bulgaria, these are the people living in coal regions, where coal power is their livelihood. We should not allow the green transition to lead to increased inequalities and to a deterioration of the way of life of large groups of people," Radev said at the opening of the Energy for a Green Future conference on April 25.
