probe launched result prime minister’s allegations

The Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office has begun a check into recent comments by Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov that there are people in Parliament involved in drug trafficking, the Chief Prosecutor’s Spokesperson Roumyana Arnaoudova said on 22nd of November.

The check was initiated following alerts from Borets (Fighter) Civic Movement and Vuzrazhdane (Revival) Movement.

Earlier on Wednsday, BSP for Bulgaria Parliamentary Group Secretary, Filip Popov, told a news briefing at the National Assembly that BSP leader Kornelia Ninova and Socialist MPs have alerted Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov about the Prime Minister words.

The alert stated that "the BSP Parliamentary Group finds it inadmissible that MPs involved in drug trafficking and vote buying should be in Parliament". The Socialist MPs requested the Chief Prosecutor to take all necessary steps under the law, including interviewing PM Borissov about the place, source and circumstances in which he obtained information about such MPs and about their identity.

Arnaoudova said that no such alert from the BSP had been received by midday on 22nd of November. She said that if the Socialists request a check, then their alert will be joined to the other two.
