Prof. Baltov: Bulgaria will receive more than 1 million doses of BioNTech-Pfizer vaccine in the next 3 months

1 million 259 thousand 728 doses of additional vaccines of "Pfizer" have been allocated for Bulgaria. They will be delivered in the next 3 months, the Head of "Pirogov" emergency hospital, Prof. Assen Baltov, told BNT on April 2.

According to him, in this way the vaccination plan will be 100% fulfilled. This will ensure 70% vaccinated people by the end of September, added Prof. Baltov.

"Next week it will become clear when the shipment will come. Having 1 million by the end of April, then a million and a half by May and 2 million already vaccinated by the end of June, we will have achieved herd immunity, along with the recoveries who will be not less than 500,000. 2 million and a half people with immunity will be enough to live calmer and more normally and have a nice summer," added Prof. Baltov.

According to him, vaccination should start with people aged 75 and above, then with the age group from 70 to 75, and then from 65 to 70. When there are more doses, they will be distributed proportionally to both general practitioners and vaccination centres, said the director of "Pirogov".

I hope that the people who come to be immunized in "Pirogov" will have the opportunity of a choice of vaccine next week. The mobile vaccination teams will start working next week. The people who received a jab against covid-19 are better protected than those who recovered from the virus infection, because their immunity decreases. In Pirogov we no longer have more than 4-5 staff members who become infected with COVID-19 in a week, commented Prof. Baltov.

According to him, it is normal to prescribe anticoagulant medication to people who are obese or with chronic heart disease.

He expressed hope that the peak of the third Covid-19 wave has been reached and the pressure would begin to decrease.

The best vaccine is the administered one, in no case we can say that the Astra Zeneca vaccine is less suitable than the RNA vaccines. If there is a war between companies somewhere, it is not in Bulgaria. We only suffer consequences from that. Currently, 434 people with coronavirus infection are in Pirogov hospital, over 70 of them are in serious condition, for intensive treatment and mechanical ventilation, 8 of those admitted in the past 24 hours are from all over the country, not from Sofia city only, Prof. Baltov said.
