Prosecutor’s office launched investigation into allegations made by businessman Ilchovski during ad-hoc parliamentary committee hearing

The prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the allegations of businessmen Svetoslav Ilchovski and Ivan Angelov before the ad-hoc parliamentary committee set up to inspect the government over the past 10 years, the spokesperson of the Chief Prosecutor, Siika Mileva, told BTA on May 9.

She told BTA that the actions of the state public Prosecutor’s office started a few days ago and that the allegations made by the two businessmen Svetoslav Ilchovski and Ivan Angelov will be checked.

On Wednesday and Friday, at two consecutive meetings of the ad-hoc committee inspecting GERB incumbency, businessman Svetoslav Ilchovski, a large landowner and grain producer, told the committee that he had been blackmailed by the power-holders and companies close to GERB. Ilchovski estimated his business at BGN 200-300 million, but according to him it would have developed even better if it had not been for the political racketeering. He explained that he had been blackmailed into artificially increasing the turnover of a company owned by Ivan Angelov, close to the ruling power, in order to list it on the stock exchange.

Ivan Angelov, a large poultry producer, whose name was mentioned by Ilchivski as being involved in shady affairs, said he would refer Ilchovski to the Prosecutor’s office for spreading lies.

The spokesperson of the Chief Prosecutor also told BTA that the election campaign was going on for several months and the Prosecutor's office has received many alerts, which are being checked.
