Bulgaria’s Prosecutor General, Ivan Geshev, presented specific measures against the rising crime rate at the national meeting of the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Bulgaria, the State Investigation Service said on October 26.
In view of the growing security and public order risks that could lead to a failure in the fight against crime, Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev presented three groups of measures. Their implementation is aimed at the immediate activation of the law enforcement agencies to conduct prompt and effective investigations to protect the interests of the Bulgarian people, their property and rights.
First of all, units for the investigation of organized crime and corruption will be established in the district prosecutor's offices in the country in order to optimize the organization related to the cases.
"What the Bulgarian Prosecutor's Office will do is to intensify the fight against crime within its legal powers. Anti-organised crime units will be established in all district prosecutor's offices," the Prosecutor General said.
The Prosecutor General proposes urgent joint actions with the Ministry of Interior and the State Agency for National Security (SANS) to ensure active and functional work against organised crime, drug distribution and trafficking, migrant pressure, telephone frauds and corruption in high echelons of power. It will be proposed to set up joint teams between the Prosecutor’s office, the Ministry of the Interior and SANS to analyse, assess and continuously monitor the available data on these crimes.
As a third step, reception of citizens by the administrative heads of the Prosecutor’s offices across the country will be resumed. The questions and requests raised by them will be referred to the competent authorities, the State Investigation Service said.
