PROTESTING MINERS FROM BABINO RECEIVE A COMPROMISE PROPOSAL OVER DELAYED PAY

For a third consecutive day, miners from Babino pit of Bobov Dol mining complex continue the underground strike. The miners rejected the proposal of the management to get paid for August if they sign an agreement.

The management of the mine proposed a compromise solution suggesting the salaries for August be paid today, 13th of October and to give the food vouchers for March, followed by payment of September wages by 25th of October and the food vouchers to be given every week until Christmas.

Kamelia Georgieva, an expert has said that the decision made by the management of the mine was to pay the full size of the salaries for August to all miners from Bobov Dol mine, except to the ones from Babino pit i.e. their remunerations will be paid after they sign an agreement with management for termination of the strike.

A protesting miner said that the proposal was to get paid only for one month, August. He explained that the miners demanded to get the salaries for August and September and the food vouchers for all delayed months.

Another miner said that he stayed underground for five shifts and came out last night on 12th of October. He added the ventilator was switched off last night. “We said we would not come out, we would die," he says.

Kamelia Georgieva said that the management took the responsibility to supply food and drinks for the people who were underground.

The miners insist that the agreement be notarised to avoid being cheated.

It is not yet clear whether the miners would accept the second proposal of the pit’s management. There are reasons for worry because water flows towards many places in the pit and if work does not restart within the next several days, these water inflows might fill in the galleries.
