A record number of people took part in the sparrow counting campaign in Bulgaria, which took place on St. Lazarus' Day, April 24.
They counter a total of 11,681 sparrows across the country.
Most are house sparrows, said the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds. Most sparrows were registered in backyards, inter-block spaces, parks and quiet streets.
