REFORMIST BLOC ACCEPTED THE MANDATE TO FORM A GOVERNMENT (update)

On 13th of December, the centre-right Reformist Bloc (RB) accepted the mandate to try to form a government within the frames of the current Parliament. This was the third and final exploratory mandate offered by Bulgaria’s President Rossen Plevneliev, after the first two mandates were returned by GERB and the Bulgarian Socialist Party. The President expressed hope that the Reformist Bloc would make an attempt to form a new cabinet.

On behalf of the Parliamentary group of the Reformist Bloc, the third mandate was accepted by Rumen Hristov, the deputy chair of the Union of Democratic Forces party, which is a constituent member of the Reformist Bloc.

According to the RB, the current Parliament has not exhausted its options to form a government and it is possible to establish a majority for a new cabinet. Therefore, they said they would seek GERB’s support and would hold talks with them. If they receive GERB’s support, the RB will propose GERB to nominate the Prime Minister.

The RB said that by Monday, 19th of December, they would be ready with the reply on whether they would form a new cabinet or not.

The outgoing Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said he would meet the RB for discussions.

According to RB, considering the complicated international environment and on the Balkans, and the tragic incident in Hitrino village, it was not a good idea to hold early parliamentary elections. They reminded that the economic indicators were good and in the recent years Bulgaria was an island of stability. RB also think that it would not be easier for a new Parliament to nominate a government.

The RB intends to also seek support for a new cabinet from the Patriotic Front and the Bulgarian Democratic Centre.
