REMOVAL OF ILLEGALLY BUILT STRUCTURE IN BULGARIA’S ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESERVE “YAILATA” BEGAN

The owners of an unauthorized construction in Bulgaria’s Archaeological reserve “Yailata”, near the Bulgarian Seaside town of Kavarna, hired a company to implement the judgment of the court and began demolishing the illegally built concrete structure.

The building started in 2007 and continued in 2013. After two year court saga, at the beginning of July 2015, the Supreme Administrative Court upheld the order of the Construction Supervision authorities according to which the construction was illegal.

The deadline given for voluntary removal was not observed and on 15th of October the authorities were to undertake a forced demolition. However, during the weekend, the owners started to knock down the construction.

Within two months, the construction waste has to be removed from “Yailata” national archaeological reserve.

The Archaeological Reserve Yailata is located 2 km south of the village of Kamen Bryag, about 18 km northeast of the town of Kavarna on the Black Sea coast. The reserve is a large ledge near the sea, covering 300 decares (45, 3 hectares) and is detached from the sea by 50-60 meters high rock massifs.
