The establishment of a state enterprise to operate the road toll systems begins, Doncho Atanasov, the Chairperson of the Management Board of the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) said on 14th of August.
According to him, the road toll system is very important for the self-financing of the maintenance and construction of the national road network in the country. This will be the first system that will be self-financed without relying on the state budget, Atanasov added. The system is expected to start work next year or in 2019 at the latest and to collect revenues of 1 billion BGN for one year.
Last week, Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said that if the toll system did not start working by 14th of August, the state had readiness to build it.
