More than 200 fire-fighters, police officers and doctors are involved in rescue operations on site in the village of Hitrino after the incident in which 7 people were killed and 29 injured by an explosion of a derailed cargo train on Saturday, 10th of December. Charity organisations are providing food and everything needed for the rescue teams.
The rescue operations are coordinated by a district crisis management team, which collects information, summarizes it and creates logistics for provision of foods, medicines and water.
In an interview for BNT earlier on 12th of December, the outgoing Minister of Interior Roumyana Bachvarova said that the potential risk at the place of the incident remained high and added that 29 people worked very hard during the night and drained 5 tanks. The drainage of the dangerous substance (propanol) is ongoing.
