Repairs are underway in both lanes of a 16.5-kilometer section of Trakia motorway. The repairs are in the section between the road connection with Maritsa motorway and Chirpan-Iztok road junction.
The construction activities are part of the phased repair of a total of 52 km of the motorway, which began in October last year.
Traffic on the motorway in this section will be completely restricted. It will be diverted to bypass routes through the village of Plodovitovo.
The speed in this section was limited to 90 km/h for a long time due to the waves on the asphalt surface and the deep tracks that had been formed. The repair will improve the whole road construction, using the method of cold recycling.
The repair is scheduled to be completed at the end of March, weather permitting.
It will cost BGN 70 million. The section was opened in 2006 and 14 years later is highly depreciated. According to the statistics of the Road Safety Institute, 16 people have died in car crashes on this section in the past 5 years.
