The High Court of Belgrade has ruled that there are legal grounds for the extradition of banker Tzvetan Vassilev to Bulgaria. The information was confirmed by Tanya Kolenshic, the spokesperson of the High Court of Belgrade for the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).
The lawyer of Tzvetan Vasilev, Konstantin Simeonov, confirmed that there was a decision for Vassilev’s extradition, issued at the first instance court in February. He refused to give further details because the case was being handled by local lawyers in Serbia. He added only that an appeal process is underway.
Tzvetan Vassilev is the majority shareholder of Corporate Commercial Bank. He was alleged in siphoning off 206 million BGN from CorpBank, which stopped operations in June 2014 and later its license was revoked.
Vassilev surrendered to the Serbian police in Belgrade on 16th of September, 2014. Before that, at the request of the Bulgarian authorities, he was put on the Interpol Red Notice wanted list.
The Serbian court ordered Vassilev to report to the police every day and took possession of his international passport. Two days after Vassilev surrendered in the Serbian capital, the Bulgarian authorities sent an official request for his extradition.
