Code orange weather alert is in place for 5 districts in Bulgaria on 24th of January. Meteorologists warn that heavy rain is expected in the districts of Blagoevgrad, Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Smolyan and Kardzhali. Snow is forecast for the mountains.
Cold is expected from the Northwest. Last night it snowed in Northwest Bulgaria, where it will continue to snow in the mountains.
The most severe weather is expected on Friday, 25th of January, when the rainfall in Southwest Bulgaria will reach 50 litres per square metre. Most snow is expected in the Western and Southern parts of the Rhodope Mountains. Possible precipitation may reach quantities of up to 100 litres, ie. temperatures will be below zero, it will snow at altitudes above 1,000 - 1,200 m and snow cover will be significant.
