Situation in Northeastern Bulgaria back to normal after the heavy snowfall and gusty winds

The situation in Northeastern Bulgaria is getting back to normal after the heavy snowfall and the strong winds on January 28.

After the wind stopped, heavy equipment cleaned the snow from the roads to the blocked villages. However, there are roads that are still closed to traffic and others are only open to cars.

The partial state of emergency in the municipalities of Suvorovo and Dolni Chiflik has been lifted. The electricity supply has been restored in all villages where there were power outages.

All roads in the coastal region of Varna have been re-opened to traffic.

The situation in the region of Dobrich is also getting back to normal. Some of the republican roads there have been cleaned and opened. Roads from the third-class network in the region remain impassable. There are no stranded people. Products for grocery shops have been provided.

Many lorries and buses remained blocked near Balchik, as the road to Durankulak was only open to cars. Romanian tourists returning from Istanbul waited in the cold for hours.

In Dobrich region, there are closed roads from the third-class network, which are still being cleaned. Owners of cars blocked in the snow were trying to take them home.

A pregnant woman, Dilyana Georgieva, was also among those stuck yesterday. She was returning from a hospital in Varna. She called 112 for help, but said she was rudely refused.

During the snowstorm, heavy chain equipment cleared the road in front of a refrigerated lorry carrying vaccines against COVID-19.
