Judges from Sofia Regional Court staged a protest outside the building of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) on 26th of January. This has been the second protest over the recent two months.
The reason is discontent with the policy of the SJC. The protest was triggered because the SJC’s Judges College ignored the nomination of the General Assembly of Sofia Regional Court’s judges without convincing arguments and did not support Albena Boteva as acting head of Sofia Regional Court.
When the protest started, the SJC was holding a meeting. After the meeting was over, the members of SJC neither discussed the protest, nor met with the protesting judges.
Only Kalin Kalpakchiev and Lozan Panov, the Chairperson of the Supreme Court of Cassation went outside and talked with the protesters.
