Bulgarian teachers’ salaries will go up by average 10% as of 2017. This became clear after Prime Minister Boyko Borissov announced on 4th of October that the cabinet will provide additional 223 million BGN for the area of education. Thus, the promise made by the minister of education, Meglena Kuneva, for an increase in the teachers‘ pay, will be fulfilled.

She thanked the Prime Minister. 26 million BGN for salaries will be allocated to positions in the educational system, the chair of the Bulgarian teachers’ trade union, Yanka Takeva, said.

Additional several hundred million will be exceptionally important for the reforms in the area of education, the Chair of the Confederation of the Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria, Plamen Dimitrov said. PM Borissov stressed that unlike previous governments, the government led by him could afford to provide these additional funds because it had collected over 1 billion BGN more revenue in comparison with the expected.
