Road Infrastructure Agency at 17:00 on August 16 opened the bids for the construction of the road toll system in Bulgaria.
Six companies submitted documents for participation in the procurement. The companies participating in the bid are Bulgarian and foreign, including a Hungarian consortium with experience in building toll systems.
The construction of the road toll system will cost 200 million BGN. It has been delayed for nearly 2 years because of complaints against the procurement procedure.
14 complaints were lodged, the Commission for Protection of Competition said.
The government has a reserve option – to set up a state company, which would construct and maintain the toll system
The new toll system will include 55% of the roads in Bulgaria and will be applied only for heavy goods vehicles. For cars, the vignettes will become electronic, but their price will not go up.
