THE NEW POLITICAL SEASON BEGAN WITH A VISION TOWARDS THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

On 31st of August, the Bulgarian MPs are back to work after the summer recess. In their traditional statements, the parliamentary groups outlined the priorities and placed a focus on the forthcoming presidential elections as well as on enhancing the security of the country because of the migration crisis. The Movement for Rights and Freedoms directly said they would work for early parliamentary elections.

The MPs defined the new political season as crucial for Bulgaria, amid a worrying international situation and regional instability. The centre-right GERB have promised to adopt laws that will ensure security and border protection. They accused their opponents in hypocrisy and political inadequacy and called for consensus on all important issues.

The left-wing demanded a common front against the falsification of the elections and vote buying. The opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party insisted on hearing the Prime Minister about his meetings in Turkey and Germany, but the majority rejected the proposal.

MRF stressed that the new parliamentary session starts in a situation of acute crisis of security and said they were for stability of the country.

Democrats for Strong Bulgaria which are part of the centre-right Reformist Bloc, but are in opposition, indicated that foreign policy priorities are clear, but domestically, the country has yet to go on the path of profound serious reforms.

The MPs approved at first reading amendments to the law on military police related to anti-terrorist activities and the use of weapons.
