The spread of coronavirus, although slightly, is slowing as a result of the tougher measures, the director of the National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, professor Kantardzhiev, told BNT on December 6.

In the BNTweekend programme "The day begins with Georgi Lyubenov", he explained that the so-called reproduction number of the infection rate is decreasing across the country. If 14 days ago 10 infected people passed on the virus to 20 and more, now 10 infected spreads to 7 to 9 other people.

The director of the National Vaccination Task Force, Prof. Krassimir Gigov, told BNR that the benefits of vaccination will outweigh the risks. In the program "Week 150" he also stated that the vaccines are expected to arrive at the end of December, and their delivery will start immediately to the priority groups.

Gigov also commented that lists of patients who want to be immunized against COVID-19 are already being prepared by general practitioners.

The stricter measures are already working.

"In Sofia for 14 days we have a reduction of about 20-25% of cases, which is very good," said Prof. Kantardzhiev.

Prime Minister Borissov called on people to comply with the anti-epidemic measures.

"You see, the number of infected people has already started to drop. The pressure on hospitals is decreasing," the prime minister said.

Experts hope that the positive trend will continue.

"If things go well, by December 20 we will already know whether it will be possible two families to get together or three," Kantardzhiev commented.

Three groups of vaccines against COVID-19 are currently being developed.

"mRNA vaccines. Vaccines that have a vector. These vaccines are not suitable for people with immune deficiency, autoimmune diseases, cancer patients. And the third group - these are vaccines, they are for people who are immune deficient ", the profesor explained.

Vaccines are not dangerous, Kantardzhiev explained.

"We have a unique chance with this vaccine to increase the number of people who have protection against this virus and not to wear these masks, and to be able to see friends, and to have easy contact with other people," the professor added.

He also explained why the employees of mink farms are before the senior citizens in the vaccination plan.

"The virus, passing through a mink, can change. We have one small and one smaller mink farm. It would be good to vaccinate the workers in these farms, to prevent possible spread of mutated virus, he said.

It is not yet clear how long-lasting immunity the COVID-19 vaccine can produce.

Usually the daily cases numbers on Sundays are lower, he said. The latest numbers show that 34% of the tested were positive, which means there was a slight decrease compared to previous days.
