"There is Such a People" party is proposing chess champion Antoaneta Stefanova as Prime Minister, but she will immediately return the mandate to form a government when it is handed to her by President Rumen Radev, the party leader Slavi Trifonov wrote on Facebook on April 26.
“To our joy, there are Bulgarians who make us proud before the world. For example, we have two world chess champions. Vesselin Topalov and Antoaneta Stefanova. The world chess champions are worshipped around the world. Books are written about them, films are made and their names are written in golden letters in world history. Bulgaria has two such people", the leader of "There is Such a People "Slavi Trifonov wrote in his Facebook profile.
"Our nomination for Prime Minister is the world chess champion Antoaneta Stefanova. She has a university degree in economics and speaks five languages. I leave the comparisons, reflections and conclusions to you," Trifonov added.
“Of course, Antoaneta Stefanova will return the mandate immediately. Immediately. In a second. Because "There is Such a People" does not have the necessary number of MPs or partners to form a government, a stable government. The proposed support is from political entities that are harmful, greedy and proven to be compromised. And their proposal for support does not mean support, but dependence. So Antoaneta Stefanova will accept the mandate with respect and will return it immediately. The law, the Constitution and democracy give us the opportunity to make a better choice," Slavi Trifonov added.

Trifonov’s party “There is Such a People” came second in the April 4 parliamentary elections. It has 51 seats in Bulgaria’s 240-seat Parliament.
Outgoing Prime Minister Boyko Borissov’s party GERB won the largest share of 26.18% of the votes in the elections. Acccording to the Constitution, the President handed over the first mandate to seek to form a government to GERB-UDF coalition. It has 75 seats in Parliament, the largest share, but falls short of absolute majority. GERB-UDF returned the mandate after it did not receive support from the other parties in Parliament.
If “There is Such a People” returns the mandate, President Radev will offer a third mandate to seek to form a government. According to the Constitution, he can offer it to the parliamentary group of his choice.
If the third attempt to form a cabinet fails, the constitution requires the President to dissolve Parliament, appoint a caretaker government and set a date for early parliamentary elections.
