The central part of the acropolis of the ancient Thracian city of Perperikon has been uncovered. The archaeologists continue the excavation works. A unique Thracian sword is among the new finds.
The archaeological season at Perperikon, the Eastern Phodopes, has seen the long awaited discovery of the central square of the ancient stone city. The Bulgarian archaeologists also found four rare silver coins of Tsar Ivan Alexander, three rings from the Roman and the Medieval Epoch and a unique Rhomphaia.sword.
The weapon from the Thracian era is 142 cm long, honed on one side, often used for direct attack or for severing tendons of horses in battle.
The latest finds are already on display in Perperikon for viewing. The entire western sector of the historical site is open for tourists.
