Three Bulgarian customs officers from Gyueshevo check point (Bulgaria’s border with Macedonia) were convicted of taking bribes, the prosecutor’s said on 11th of January.
According to the prosecution, in 2013, D. Davidkov, a senior customs officer in the Customs Agency, requested and accepted a bribe from M. M. to the total amount of 150 euro in cash in return for not carryout out customs examination on consignments transported by the person.
Davidkov was sentenced to a one year of imprisonment with a probation of 3 years, a fine of 1,500 BGN and was banned from working in the Ministry of Finance and Ministery of Interior for a period of 3 years.
The court sentenced two other customs officers: M. Martinov and K. Petrov. In 2013, the customs inspector M. Martinov in complicity with his colleague K. Petrov, requested and received 100 euro bribe in return for not carrying out customs examination.
Marinov was sentenced to 6 months of imprisonment, which is postponed for 3 years and a fine of 800 BGN and was banned from employment in the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Interior for a period of 3 years.
K. Petrov, who requested and received a bribe of 300 euro, was sentenced to one year and 5 months of imprisonment, a probation period of 3 years, a fine of 2,000 BGN and was banned from working in the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Interior for a period of 3 years.
The decisions of the court are subject to appeal in Sofia Court of Appeals.
