Three traffic police officers from Slivo Pole, Rousse district, have been arrested for alleged bribe taking. Evidence has been gathered that they have taken 26 bribes from motorists, who violated traffic rules, the district Prosecutor’s Office said on January 8. The largest amount of bribe they had received was BGN 800.
The detained police officers used a car without a camera. They were most active during night time and on holidays.
They were under surveillance for 6 months prior to the detention. If found guilty, they will face 3 to 20 years of imprisonment.
The investigation is on-going. Other police officers may also have been involved in the corruption practices.
