Train derailed in the area of the Iskar Gorge, between the stations of Rebrovo and Svoge on the route from Sofia to Varna on 11th of December. About 100 people were on the train. No passengers were injured. The locomotive derailed in the tunnel between Rebrovo and Thompson. The reason for the incident was a broken rail in 4 places.
Most likely, the damage occurred while the train was travelling on the track. It is checked daily by a cantoner. The latest defect survey was last month. No irregularities were identified at the time.
