By the end of the day, the traffic through Troyan Pass will be restored for vehicles weighing up to 12 tonnes, the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) announced on 28th of February.
Georgi Terziiski, Chair of the RIA Board: Specialized machines work on both sides of the pass and we have the assurance that by the end of the day Troyan - Karnare road will be open for cars up to 12 tonnes for passage under winter conditions.
The most critical stretch is from the edge of the forest to Beklemeto ridge on the north side of the pass. Rotor snow ploughing machines are expanding the gauge of the road to make it easier to travel during the weekend and celebrations dedicated ti the national liberation day on March 3rd.
In the winter months traffic through the Troyan passage was limited to ensure the safety of drivers due to the strong winds, snowfalls and snowdrifts, which in places reached a height of up to 3-4 metres.
The clearing of the roadway is carried out by specialized machines - rotor snow ploughs, graders and excavators.
Launching of the traffic through Troyan Pass will facilitate travelling of drivers from the districts of Lovech and Plovdiv, as well as the connection between North and South Bulgaria, assured the RIA.
