Two shelters for protection of victims of human trafficking - one for children and one for adults - will be established in Sofia under a Bulgarian-Swiss project. They will provide medical, psychological and legal assistance to the victims.
Bulgaria is one of the two countries which is a major source of human trafficking in the EU, said Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister, Meglena Kuneva, at the presentation of the project on 5th of October.
For the first 6 months of 2015, Bulgaria’s National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings has received 46 signals for victims of human trafficking, she explained. Between 500 and 550 Bulgarians per year become victims of human trafficking, in accordance with sentences that came into force, she added.
