The use of four wheel drives and ATVs will be banned in Rila National Park.
In recent years, the park management, together with other institutions, has been seriously monitoring the attempts for offering illegal transport services to passengers, especially to the Seven Rila Lakes. This has necessitated an annual ban on the use of off-road vehicles and their passage through the protected areas.
"The ban for the use of four wheel drives and ATV vehicles will come into effect from July 5 once an order is issued and will be in effect for 90 days - until the beginning of October. With the mass movement of tourists in July, August and September, such vehicles should not be used in the park, except for the specialised traffic regime for forestry vehicles, firefighting equipment and those vehicles that service the tourist sites located in the area," said Kalin Galev, mayor of the municipality of Sapareva Banya.
