Drivers who travel without vignette tax stickers on Bulgaria’s road network will pay a compensatory fee which will entitle them to finish the trip within 24 hours. That was the decision of the Bulgarian lawmakers on 20th of January. The size of the fee will be determined by the Council of Ministers, depending on the type of the vehicle.
The introduction of the fee results from the checks on the vehicles transiting across the country.
According to the authors of this proposal, the size of the fee will probably be something average between the price of the annual vignette sticker and the size of the fine for travelling without a vignette, which is 300 BGN.
The MPs also approved the introduction of vignette stickers for a period of 3 months for the purposes of those who use their vehicles for a short period of the year. The 3-months vignette stickers will not be available to the large freight lorries or buses with more than eight seats excluding the driver’s seat.
The MPs also approved the validity of the 1-year vignettes to start from the date of purchase rather than from the beginning of the year until to the end, as it has been so far.
The graphic design of the vignette stickers will include an option for inserting the date of the purchase.
