This year’s edition of the traditional wine holiday in the picturesque village of Delchevo in the Pirin Mountain, South-West Bulgaria, will be held on 4th and 5th of February, the local municipality of Gotse Delchev, which is the organiser of the event said on 11th of January.
The holiday is dedicated to the Day of Saint Trifon, the patron of vine-growers and wine-producers and is also known as Trifon Zarezan or the wine day.
The contest for the best wine producer and producer of rakia (grape brandy) will take place on 4th of February, Saturday. Everyone who wants to take part in the competition can submit their production by 12:00 on 2nd of February. The wine and rakia tasting will start at 14:00 at Delchovski Han.
As part of the tradition, the pruning of the vines will take place from 10:30 on 5th of February in the area of Baira, with the participation of Gotse Delchev’s Mayor Vladimir Moskov. Half an hour later, visitors can soak up in the atmosphere of the music programme at the square in the village of Delchevo. The festival will welcome its visitor with red and white wine.
The municipality has arranged transportation for all who wish to visit the winter festival but have no own means of transport.
