President Rumen Radev should not hide his political failure in Europe behind technical criteria, “We Continue the Change” co-leader Assen Vassilev said commenting on the words of President Rumen Radev on Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone, the party's press centre reported on February 21.
Bulgaria can enter the eurozone through the central entrance as planned with four out of five technical criteria met. We, from “We Continue the Change”, believe that it is absolutely possible to meet the deadline, because the main technical criteria Bulgaria currently does not meet, is related to the inflation in Europe, caused by the war, he said.
The party recalled that Croatia was allowed into the eurozone despite not meeting two criteria: for inflation and for the correlation between external debt and GDP.
If the caretaker government had the will, it could have requested a new convergence report, in which the inflation rate will be measured from April 2022 to April 2023. That way, Bulgaria can meet this technical criteria, given that the inflation decreased in the first three months of this year compared to the same period of 2022.
Regarding the second criteria not met by Bulgaria, the 4 non-adopted laws, the convergence report should be published in mid-June. By then, if a working parliament is formed, these laws can be adopted.
“Unlike those hungry for power who are doing everything possible to rule via a caretaker government, we formed a party and stood for elections in order to win people’s trust,” Vassilev added.
