The forest fire in the South Bulgarian region of Haskovo has been brought under control. The state of emergency however will remain in place although at the moment there is no direct risk for the safety of the residents, their homes and the animals.
Firefighters continue to battle the wildfire which engulfed 60,000 decares of land, mainly forests, pastures and vineyards. This is the largest fire that occurred in the region over the past year.
The fire began on 20th of August.
On 22nd of August the police detained a 27 year old man from Harmanli, allegedly responsible for the wildfire. An investigation will take place.
