Winter situation in Smolyan remains complicated

The winter situation in Smolyan district (South Bulgaria) on 25th of January remains complicated after the heavy snowfall last night. Many cars had difficulties yesterday to get to Pamporovo ski resort, because they did not have tyre chains.

The rain in the lower areas increased the river levels. Zlatograd and Plovdivtsi dams are overflowing. Military from the Army Land Force are providing assistance with specialised equipment because of complicated winter conditions.

Restrictions are in place for movement of vehicles weighing more than 12 tonnes, as well vehicles with trailers and semi-trailers, thorugh Prevala pass. Cars are required to obligatory use tyre chains.
