Currently, all the traffic of freight vehicles between Romania and Bulgaria goes through Rousse and Vidin because of the ice floating on the Danube river as a result of which ferry crossings stopped. Bulgarian border police said on 24th of January that three cross-border counters are working on the Bulgarian side. The traffic is intense.
Lorry drivers are complaining that they spent the whole night in the lorry cabins, with access to hygiene facilities.
The queue is expected to reduce in length within several days but predictions are that similar traffic problems may occur on the Romania side in a few weeks’ time when the lorries start to return to Bulgaria.
Currently there is no queue on the Romanian side of the border.
