The police in Izmir, Turkey, arrested three Bulgarian nationals - Panayot Pavlov, Manol Tomov and Radostin Donchev, for draining ATMs, Haberler reported. The police tracked them down asa result of an alert and found that they had put skimming devices at ATMs in Karşayaka area of Izmir. Their actions were recorded on street cameras.
The police arrested the three while they were trying to retrieve the skimming devices from the ATMs. According to the investigation, the Bulgarian citizens entered Turkey on 15th of June via Derekhoy-Malko Tarnovo border checkpoint and went into a hotel in Aliaga. During the search of the hotel rooms, the police found 9 skimming devices for ATMs, mobile phones and laptops.
The arrested admitted that they imported the ATM skimmers through customs by hiding them in their laptops. And in order not to be found by the police, they intended to withdraw money from ATMs in Bulgaria. The court ordered the three Bulgarians to be detained in jail on charges of draining ATMs.
