A section of "Hemus" motorway remains closed for an indefinite period of time from junction "Pravets" to junction "Vitinska Reka" for all types of vehicles. Temporary traffic organization was introduced after the tragic incident on 5th of February in the tunnel "Echemishka," in which a woman died after an element of the tunnel lighting system fell on a car in the tunnel and killed her. She was sitting next to the driver.
A team of engineers, including independent experts on metal constructions, begins work as of 6th of February, to identify the causes for the incident.
The section of the motorway is closed in order to ensure full safety of Echemishka tunnel. The traffic is temporarily diverted through the old route.
